“Bruises for my long hair”: Vladimir Luxuria's memory on the day against homobitransphobia

“ I am reposting this photo of me as a teenager with bruises from the beatings I received only because of my long hair and effeminate attitudes”. With these intense and personal words, Vladimir Luxuria , activist, writer and well-known face on Italian television, recalled on Facebook the most difficult moments of her youth spent in Foggia , the city where she was born and raised.
The post was published today, May 17 , on the occasion of the International Day Against Homophobia, Lesbophobia, Biphobia and Transphobia , a symbolic date for Luxuria who has never stopped denouncing the violence and prejudice suffered by those who, like her, have dared to be themselves in a social context that is still too often hostile to diversity.
“Those wounds are medals”In the message, accompanied by a photo showing her face marked by bruises, Luxuria does not limit herself to recalling a private matter, but relaunches a civil and political appeal: "Many things have changed in my life but certain wounds, even if for me they are the medals of my sincerity, remain wounds".
An ancient pain, but never removed, that returns to be felt every time another LGBTQIA+ person is attacked or insulted. A personal memory that becomes a collective story, a symbol of the many lives marked by the violence of intolerance.
“We will survive”In her post, Luxuria also talks about resistance, strength and determination: “We will survive the beatings, the insults, the mocking smiles, those who point the finger at us, those who consider us unworthy of having the same rights as everyone else”.
A message addressed above all to the new generations, so that they do not forget how necessary it is to fight for dignity and equality. And to remember that every personal story is an important piece in the battle against hatred and for civil rights.
The hashtag that closes the post – #giornatamondialecontrolomofobia #omobitransfobia #17maggio – is the sign of an uninterrupted militancy. And of the will to transform pain into living memory, capable of speaking to the heart and conscience of an entire country.
